CUE Conference

On Wednesday, March 8 I headed to the Computer Using Educators Conference in Palm Springs. I'd like to share some of the information I gathered. Hopefully some of you will join me next year in the desert!

iPod & Education
The evolution of Homo Portableaudio

Apple Distinguished Educators Kathy Shirley, Ted Lai, and Robert Craven shared how iPods can do so much more than play music. To help demonstrate this, all participants were given a video iPod to use during the demonstration. One of the podcast examples was daily Photoshop tips from techpodcasts.com.

Podcasting is a method of publishing audio programs through the Internet. It is anytime and anywhere learning. The number of podcasts is growing exponentially. Although I didn't get all the numbers, these were amazing to me. In November 2004 there were approximately 5000 podcasts, September 2005 61 million, October 2005 67.2 million, March 2006 233 million.

Throughout the presentation I was thinking of how we could use podcasting in our curriculum, some of my ideas were: walking tour of school for prospective students, historical speeches, interview family members for Coming to America Project, directions for science labs, training videos, school information and news, book reviews. One of the podcasting ideas presented was sound effect stories, The Radio Adventures of Dr. Floyd.
